1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how ECU Scholar collects, uses, and protects your information. We are committed to your privacy and have built the App with a read-only, minimal-data approach.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

Your ECU university username and password (used only to authenticate with the university official SIS portal)

Information retrieved from the university SIS:

Academic schedule
Grades and GPA
Student profile information (name, faculty, academic year, student ID)

Automatically collected information:

Basic app usage data (e.g., crash reports, feature usage frequency) to help us improve the App
Device type and operating system version

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

Authenticate you with the ECU SIS portal and retrieve your academic data
Display your personalized schedule, grades, and profile within the App
Improve App performance and fix bugs

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing, or any commercial purpose.

4. How We Store Your Credentials

Your university password is never stored on our servers or in any database.
Authentication is handled in real time.
Your academic data (schedule, grades) may be cached locally on your device for offline access and to reduce load on the university's systems.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party, except:

When required by law or a valid legal process
To protect the rights or safety of users

6. Third-Party Services

The App may use the following third-party services for infrastructure and crash reporting:

Vercel – serverless backend hosting
Neon – database infrastructure

These services process data in accordance with their own privacy policies. No personally identifiable student data is shared with these services beyond what is technically necessary to operate the App.

7. Data Retention

We do not permanently store your university credentials.
Cached academic data on your device can be cleared at any time by logging out or uninstalling the App.
If you request account deletion, any associated data on our servers will be permanently removed within 30 days.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the data we hold about you
Request deletion of your data
Withdraw consent and stop using the App at any time

9. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including:

HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
Secure token-based authentication (we never transmit raw passwords)
No long-term storage of sensitive credentials

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but are committed to protecting your data to the best of our ability.

10. Children's Privacy

ECU Scholar is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify users of significant changes through the App. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
